Household garbage is collected twice weekly and should be placed in 32 gallon garbage containers with secure lids or bagged and tied if placed in a larger can with a secure lid. It should be placed about 10 feet from pavement or vehicle lane on a dirt road. Please do not block mail carrier access. Please limit cans and bags to 50 lbs. Household garbage may include televisions, monitors, printers, computers, microwave ovens, toasters and other counter-top appliances.

Household garbage pickup does not include: yard waste, white goods (metal), mattresses, box springs, carpet, large plastic toys or strollers, vinyl or plastic pools, furniture, rechargeable batteries, hazardous materials or building materials. Household garbage will not be picked up if it is mixed with any of the above materials.

Note: Walton County residents may purchase 96 gallon carts for $123.00 + tax by calling the local customer service line at (850) 835-0248.

Bulk Waste Collection is not offered in Area A. Bulk waste is defined as the following: waste material from the operation of a home that is not included within the definition of “Acceptable Waste.” Bulk Waste shall include appliances (white goods), household furniture, yard toys, lawnmowers, and building materials waste from do-it-yourself projects. Appliances and lawn mowers shall be free from Freon, gas/oil, and any other chemical substances. Waste generated by or from building contractors or subcontractors, tree removal, land clearing or development and automobile or boat parts are not included in the definition herein.

There are three dumpsters (a dumpster for metal, a dumpster for tires, and a dumpster for electronics) located at 970 South County Highway 83, Santa Rosa Beach.

Yellow pages, Craigslist, and local newspapers list people who want to pick up used white goods and other items, some of which have no cost to you. Please donate all gently used items that you do not wish to sell to your local thrift store.
