It’s time to start thinking about gardening, but not everyone wants or needs acres of vegetables! The University of Florida IFAS Extension Service is presenting an educational program for those interested in learning about small hobby gardening. It will be held at the Walton County Extension Office in DeFuniak Springs on March 24th from 1:30 – 3:30 pm CST. Topics covered will include container gardening, aquaponics, insects and diseases, and weed control. Attendees will get a look at the Extension demonstration garden, greenhouse, and aquaponics setup. NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
The Walton County Board of County Commissioners proposes to adopt the following by ordinance:
AN ORDINANCE OF WALTON COUNTY, FLORIDA, PROTECTING THE PUBLIC’S LONG-STANDING CUSTOMARY USE OF THE DRY SAND AREAS OF THE BEACHES, clarifying which uses are permitted and prohibited for members of the public on the dry sand areas of the beach that are owned by private entities; PROVIDING FOR A BUFFER AREA AROUND PRIVATE PERMANENT STRUCTURES; PROVIDING FOR PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION OF THIS ORDINANCE; PROVIDING AUTHORITY, SEVERABILITY, AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

The following persons will attend the meeting: the Board of Commissioners, Bill Chapman, Cecilia Jones, Melanie Nipper, Sara Comander, and Tony Anderson; Larry Jones, County Administrator; Mark D. Davis, County Attorney; and Sidney Noyes, Assistant County Attorney; and Tim Warner and Bill Warner, Special Counsel for the county in this case, and this meeting will be recorded by a certified court reporter. The court reporter will prepare a verbatim record of the meeting, which will be sealed until conclusion of the litigation. The executive session is not open to the public pursuant to Section 286.011(8), Florida Statutes
